Asian Style Ribs

Craving those ribs you can get at your favorite Chinese takeout place? Yea I was too. So, I came up with this recipe the other night! This one has a little more kick to it, and also some Vietnamese inspired flavors like fish sauce. Super easy, can be made in about 40 mins, or you can even marinate overnight for the best flavor. Pairs perfectly with some freshly steamed white rice!

½ rack of ribs

Salt to taste

2 tbsp oil

1/4 cup Soy Sauce

2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce

1 tbsp Oyster Sauce

1 tsp Sesame Oil

1 tsp Fish Sauce

1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder

1 tsp ginger paste

1 tsp garlic paste

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp tsp cumin

Pinch of nutmeg

Pinch of clove

2 tsp brown sugar

  1. Mix all the marinade ingredients together and add to the beef ribs (cut in individual rib pieces). Chill 10+ mins or overnight for best flavor.

  2. Take the ribs out and shake off the excess marinade.

  3. Put some oil on a hot skillet and brown the ribs for a while (do not burn), keeping enough space between them so they don't give out too much moisture and steam. Fry in batches if needed.

  4. Once all the ribs are browned, put them all back in the pan. Pour in the rest of the marinade and add enough water to just cover the ribs. Cover and cook on medium low heat for about 30 mins until the ribs are tender. Make sure to keep an eye on it for the last 10 mins because the sauce will burn really quickly whenever the water is fully reduced. The ribs will not be falling of the bone, cook longer if that's what you want.

  5. Stir to coat all the ribs in the thick reduced sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

  6. Enjoy!
